Do you say “Yum” after sipping a favorite freckled lemonade mix at your local famous burger joint? I tried a Strawberry Lemonade recently and wanted to see if I could come up with a version to enjoy at home.
So, I set out to make a copycat recipe for strawberry freckled lemonade, and I am most definitely saying ‘Yum” and you will too!
I like mixing flavors with lemonade like in this homemade orange lemonade recipe. I’ve also taken some liberties with strawberries too with strawberry basil spritzer; so this just seemed like the perfect challenge to create a copycat recipe hack and put my own spin on things.
Strawberry Lemonade Recipe from Scratch?
This drink recipe tastes great all year round but will taste really yummy in June when strawberries are in season.
Sweet strawberries and tart lemon paired with an essence of thyme is really delicious! I like serving this straight up, but you could also make this into an “adult beverage” with vodka or gin if you desire.
Items Needed for Strawberry Freckled Lemonade

Simple Syrup Recipe
Summer temps are a great time to pull out this copycat recipe so you know how to make Red Robin Freckled Lemonade. Because the restaurant version is so sweet, I prefer to make a simple syrup for my lemonade or iced tea.
Keep your simple syrup on hand in a mason jar. It’s a 1 to 1 ratio; simmer, cool and enjoy!
I did 1 cup of sugar with 1 cup of water and 1 big sprig of fresh thyme from my patio garden.
Cook the herb sprig in the sugar water to get all the fabulous flavor and then pluck it out before pouring into your jar.
I used mine in my glass, but you can toss it if you want. Save the jar in the fridge.
Ingredients You’ll Need For Freckled Strawberry Lemonade
- 1/4 cup Simple Syrup
- 1/4 cup sliced strawberries
- 1 lemon, juiced
How to Make Strawberry Freckled Lemonade
I think the name for this drink came from muddling the strawberries in the bottom of the glass. When you add the water and stir, the berries create a speckled look, hence the name freckled lemonade!
