High Tech Meets Household
When buying our second home, my husband & I had a wish list of non-negotiable needs, like a big refrigerator & most definitely a dishwasher. Our first home did not have a dishwasher and raising 2 babies and all the bottles and binkies that come with them, well, had me so over hand washing everything!
Now the kids are grown and pretty much out of college. We've gone through 2 dishwashers and if noise is a determining factor, we are probably close to our third.
And the big fridge? Yep, we got that too- and I've hated it since day one. As a baker, I love freezer space for cookies and pies and our current side-by-side is too narrow.
I mean, all of our appliances are pushing the 15-year mark, so I am totally wishing hard for a complete overhaul and visiting the high tech offerings in the Best Buy suite at the recent Mom 2.0 Summit did not make it easier- I want them all.
My Wish-List Items
My husband got me hooked on high-tech gadgets. When we replaced our furnace & AC last year, the thermostat came with this new-found wizardry- not only can we program it through a phone app, but when it is changed to increase or decrease the temperature, we get an email! We also get notices if the filter needs to be changed. Now you can do the same thing with your appliances!
First on my wish list is the amazing LG Instaview Door-in-Door refrigerator. I loved the black matte stainless steel version- so sleek and sophisticated. The coolest feature? Simply knock on the door twice and it gives you a view of what's inside! No more of me watching my college kids and their friends opening the door and just staring into the fridge!

These LG smart kitchen appliances are wi-fi and voice-enabled, allowing you to control your kitchen appliances remotely — from changing settings to checking the status, or turning on or off, just like our thermostat! Voice activated? Like how cool would it be to say “Alexa, turn on ice plus for my party tonight” and have it just happen?! You can with this fridge!
My second wishlist item is – you guessed it, a dishwasher. I'm telling you, I did my time in soapy water and I only hand-wash when absolutely necessary. In fact, I had to do that recently when the handle to our current machine just snapped off!
So, if I could add a matching, sleek dishwasher that could tell me when it was finished? I'm all over it.
Next on my wishlist? A washer & Dryer. Do I need them right now? No. Do I want them? Yes. It is only a matter of time before these workhorses will need to be sent out to pasture. I wish I had the opportunity to take a closer look at what was available in the suite, but the line was really long and I was having fun knocking on the fridge door. Looking at the info on these, they seem pretty stellar- again- all wifi compatible and voice ready- getting a notice on my app that the dryer is done or telling it to start with “Ok Google, turn on my dryer.” I mean, how awesome is this?!
These smart appliances make life easier, wouldn't you say? I'm ready to redo everything. I may have to take my wishlist and take advantage of the promotion that is running (5/10-7/11) which covers both Memorial Day & July 4th holiday!
