Are you a fan of Surf & Turf?
When I was a kid, we ate supper around our family dinner table every night at 5:30 pm sharp. We talked about our day, school, work, and any upcoming events. Dad would then retire to the living room to read the newspaper as the rest of us cleaned up the dishes and completed homework. Going out to dinner was reserved only for super special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries; and on those special evenings, we could order anything we wanted-even Surf & Turf!
Of course, this also meant unlimited Shirley Temples before dinner arrived. We felt grown up and so fancy when ordering.
When dinner was served, the lobster was delicious, and so was the steak- but for our little bellies, we could only take a few bites before being completely full. This is when our parents would save the day as they would gladly oblige at finishing our feast.

From Fancy Dinner to Appetizer
Now that I am older, I still crave that fancy dinner meal, but as we both know, lobster can be expensive. So, I came up with a version of this dish using shrimp! It was great as a fun dinner for when the kids were younger, however, I discovered it worked great as a quick and simple appetizer!
A little goes a long way when making this appetizer- if the shrimp are large, you can cut them in half and the steak is a perfect portion size when cut in bite-sized pieces. Skewer both together on a toothpick and you now have a fancy snack to serve!
