Recently, I read a study that revealed those born in the fall months tend to be more athletic. I am a fall baby (October) and I would say that for me, this statement is true. I’ve been an active person for as long as I can remember; swimming for hours, riding bikes or playing tag as a kid, organized sports through school and as an adult, speedskating, cycling and running. I like to play and play hard and because of this I sweat. A lot. No “girly glistening” or perspiring…it is salty sweat that shows I am working hard at being strong and fit! I’ve also become more aware of staying healthy both inside and out which has led me to reading labels searching for more natural ingredients for my personal care products and you know who I’ve been most impressed with? That would be Tom’s of Maine! They have come a long way in the deodorant department and offer more options to stay fresh naturally than I was aware. Score!
Why have I been focusing on deodorants? Well, I’ve also read (I’ve been doing a lot of reading!) how some use of anti-perspirant combined with deodorant can wreak havoc on breast health in women. Yep- I am one who uses this combination, but I am also willing to make a small change to give myself a bit of an advantage to a healthier body and even though I’ve been incredibly loyal to a certain brand for most of my adult life and I don’t think I could do a full on armpit detox – I can try a long-lasting deodorant with natural ingredients.
Lucky for me, a brand spanking new Whole Foods market just opened in my area and I knew they would have a lot of options, including Tom’s deodorant. Now that I had another reason to go back and visit, I headed down to Albany, NY and made my way to the health and beauty aisle.
Believe it or not, this was the busiest place in the store! It seems many shoppers are interested in items that offer natural personal care products with less chemicals in their soaps, shampoos and cosmetics. Whole Foods offers so many options, it would take me hours to look through and smell each one! I found a great new lotion with all natural shea butter and my Tom’s from Maine and continued shopping. I grabbed beautiful peonies, beautiful fresh baked bread and locally grown produce.
The next day, I did a complete product test to see if it would really work. I went for a morning run “armed” and ready…haha…get it? I know, corny humor…can’t help myself. Anyway, it was muggy for an early morning run and I knew I would be all sweaty and gross within the first mile. I have been so used to using antiperspirant & deodorant that it felt a little weird having sweaty armpits, but I will say after 4 miles, I still smelled fresh as a daisy! I was so afraid that not using my normal brand would be horrible, but you know what? It wasn’t. I believe this one small change for a healthier body will work for me!
Thanks Tom’s of Maine for keeping me #FreshNaturally through a hard workout and bringing me one step closer to a healthy body, inside and out!
