It is April 1st and time to announce our new Blogger of the Month! Please help me welcome:
Heather of Making it Work Mom!!
Last summer, I participated in the 31DBBB Challenge held through SITS. The task on Day 3 asked us to promote a blog post. I received an email from another blogger who was participating asking if I could link back to a post that she had written. I clicked over to read the link she sent and fell in love with her blog! Not only did I enjoy the included link, I found myself reading almost every single post! I replied that I would absolutely share her post, but asked if I could share another one as well!
Heather is mom to “Tweenstar”, “Golden Boy” and “Princess”, works full time and STILL has found time to bring her witty banter to her readers in a very real and down to earth way. I have been a fan since her very first post and I know you will be too!
Let’s ask Heather a few more questions!
MGB: How long have you been blogging and why did you start a blog?
MWM: I have been blogging for a little over a year now. Writing has always been creative outlet for me. Telling stories about my children has always been a habit (good or bad depends on who you ask) of mine People were always telling me that I needed to write my stories down and I always laughed them off convinced that I didn’t have enough time. Once my youngest reached preschool age I started to see the light at the end of the tunnel and decided to do something for myself. And I picked blogging as my something. One of the side benefit is that I have been able to connect with relatives who I haven’t seen in ages through my blog. Another side benefit is that I have made some great bloggy friends in the past year.
MGB: What do you enjoy most about this type of writing?
MWM: I enjoy the process. I love getting that great idea and then having it spin around in my head all day. I totally write a whole blog post out in my head (mostly as I commute back and forth to work) before I even sit down at my computer. I really enjoy the challenge of rearranging the words until it sounds perfect.
And of course it is wonderful when someone reads what I have written and can connect to it. The thrill of someone connecting to and enjoying my writing never gets old.
MGB: You are a busy working mom with an active family in football, cheerleading and hockey!! When do you find the time to blog? What time of day is best for you to do so?
MWM: And don’t forget dance, gymnastics, baseball, softball, and lacrosse! As I said before I do a lot of writing “in my head”. I also always carry my blog notebook in my purse and will frequently write out a post “old school” style in my notebook while I sit at a practice.
The majority of my actual computer blog time comes between 9pm and 11pm, after my children are all tucked into their beds. I curl up on the couch with my lap top, turn on some bad reality TV and have my blog time.
MGB: Do you have a favorite post? Why is it your favorite?
MWM: I have so many favorite posts. It actually changes by the day depending on my mood or what my family is going through. This is hard because I am so attached to so many of them. I do think that the posts I have written about my relationship with tween daughter have been some of the most challenging and the most honest. I wrote this one in September when she started Middle School, it was an anxious month for both of us.
MGB: Where do you want to see your blog a year from now?
MWM: Honestly I would love to just continue doing what I am doing. I love writing about my children’s growth and my growth as a mother, wife, and woman. This past year as been such a wonderful experience for me. I have connected with so many other bloggers and feel so accomplished in having documented so many moments of my children’s lives. I know it does not sound very ambitious, but I am truly content with my blog right now.
No pranks to mark this day. But I will say, you would be a “fool” if not to follow our fabulous blogger this month!
Be sure to say hello to Heather and give her a big warm welcome!!
