Why Should I Drink Celery Juice?

I've always been a fan of eating this vegetable. It's the perfect snack with buffalo chicken wing dip, veggie dip, or filled with peanut butter.

But, if you are looking for a natural way to reset your body, drinking rather than eating celery may be for you.

After a recent physical, I need to get my cholesterol in check. I figured it wouldn't hurt to add MORE vegetables into my diet, so I looked into celery juice a little closer and learned a lot of things I didn't know before.

What are the Benefits of Celery Juice?

Did you know that celery is very high in calcium and silicon which helps to regenerate and strengthen damaged bones? I didn’t! I always thought calcium should come from dairy and had no idea I could get so much from a vegetable!

Celery is also high in Vitamin K which protects against osteoporosis, something I pay close attention to as I age.

However, celery is probably best known to help with gut health. When this particular vegetable is juiced and consumed, it retains its nutrients to help aid the digestive tract keeping it free of inflammation and because of the high natural sodium, it can also help raise the acid in the stomach so that food digests more easily and doesn’t sit there and ferment.

Who wants fermented food sitting in their gut? Not me, that's for sure!

What else does it do? Celery is also high in Vitamin A, C, iron, and magnesium which helps to nourish the blood and helps with high blood pressure, arthritis and even has been studied as having helped with clearer skin!

How do I make Celery Juice?

Making celery juice is easy when using a juicer or a blender.

  1. Run cleaned celery through a juicer and drink immediately. This makes about 16 oz (2 cups).
  2. Chop and blend in a blender until smooth. Strain through a cheesecloth or nut milk bag and drink immediately.

For best results, drink first thing in the morning on empty stomach.

If that is not doable, then anytime during day 15-30 minutes before consuming anything.

Can you Juice Celery Leaves?

Yes, you can juice celery leaves, but your juice maybe a little bitter. I like to trim off leaves and save for vegetable soup stock!

How do you make celery juice taste good?

Some folks find celery juice to be a little off-putting, especially if you juice the entire stalk with the leaves. If the taste is still not to your liking, try adding cucumber or green apple to make it a bit sweeter.

Just know that to really get the full benefits of pure celery juice, you should drink straight celery juice.

How to Juice Celery Without a Juicer

I like to use our Breville Juicer. It is super easy to use and to clean. I also like that it is on the smaller side so it stores nicely in the pantry. If you don't have one, you can use a blender as well. I've shared my favorite blender and juicer options below:

How to make Celery Juice in a Ninja Blender?

If you don't have access to a juicer, a blender will work too!

I love my Ninja Blender. I bought it over 6 years ago and it is still running strong! I use it for other recipes too like our PB&J protein smoothie!

Follow these simple steps to make celery juice in a Ninja Blender

  1. Wash fresh celery and chop into 1-inch pieces, using a cutting board and knife.
  2. Place chopped celery in the blender with 1/4 cup water.
  3. Blend on high. Strain through a mesh strainer using the back of a spoon to press vegetable pulp against sides, to ensure all liquid is through. Or you can use a cheesecloth nut milk bag as an alternative.

So, to recap our steps for a juicer:

  1. Wash and trim 1 bunch of celery
  2. place celery stalks in a juicer.
  3. Pour into a glass and drink immediately on an empty stomach. Wait 15-30 minutes before consuming any other foods or liquids.
