Time for Friday Coffee Talk! I can’t believe this is our third one. That’s right…numero 3. It’s actually kind of nice to recap our week and share what’s new, to take a short breather and enjoy each other’s stories.
This week has a little bit of running, a new resources page and some highlights for Mother’s Day. Get your cup of joe ready….
Another Half Marathon in the Books
Last weekend brought us back home to Pittsburgh for our 5th go at the Pittsburgh Marathon. Back in 2011, the hubs and I did the full 26.2 miles and it was a doozie. Hard does not even come close to describing it.
So, in 2012, 2013, 2014 & 2015, we’ve opted to cover the Half Marathon (13.1) and turn left as we cross the last bridge. Left goes to the finish line, right goes on to cover the second half distance of the marathon. I always feel for those ascending the hill into Oakland. I know what lies ahead in those last 13.1 miles for them and all I can think at that point is “I can’t imagine running another half right now!”
This year held its own suffer-fest for this runner. As I have well documented, the winter here was LONG and COLD and it made me hibernate for months.
Every time the wind howled outside, I was convinced I made the right decision as I whispered to myself “I’ll run tomorrow…” and dunked another delicious cookie into my hot tea.
No winter training. Lots of winter eating.
You do know what that means? Yep. 12 extra pounds and no miles on the legs. I was a hot mess going into this race and all I can say is thank goodness for muscle memory carrying me through to the finish line.
Summer training has been kick-started into high gear. I have 3 races scheduled on my running card and the last one is another half marathon that I intend to PR. So, bye-bye cookies, and hello summer greens. It’s time to rock and roll!
We Have a New Resources Page!
Yes! I have been trying to have a little computer time each day and update a few things on the blog here and there. Some things have needed this refresher for a long time and it feels good to finally get some of these marked off the to-do list Haha-I just typed Ta-Da list-I think I will call it that from now on! Every time something gets crossed off I can say, “Ta-Da!”
I get asked many times a day what theme I use for this blog, what hosting company, what plugins I like, so I put together a quick list to help answer those questions. We now have a quick Resources tab up on the top menu bar. If you click on this, it will bring you to some links for blogging must-haves that I use and find helpful. Things like WordPress themes, hosting plans and more. If you are writing a blog or planning on starting one, this is a great place to start.
This Weekend is Mother’s Day!
I wanted to write a round-up post this week to get everyone set for Mom’s big day, but as we all know, life happens and time slips away from us.
If the special lady in your life is a blogger, then you may want to treat her to a ticket to one of the best blogging conferences out there: TypeA Conference. There is a one-day intensive boot camp coming up in August in NYC, or you can have her whisked away to Atlanta this October! Either way, you will make her day!
Add Some Sparkle
Of course, Mom will always love to show off that macaroni necklace, but why not give her some sparkle for her fabulous day? I recently wrote about Touchstone Crystals and I can honestly say, every time I am wearing a piece of their jewelry, I always receive a compliment. It’s easy- visit their online catalog and order a little somethin’-somethin’. Mom will love it!
Cook Something Special
Treat mom to a nice fancy breakfast in bed! I have a great recipe for an easy Vegetable Quiche
or Brioche French Toast that will make her feel extra special. I don’t know of any mom who would turn down a meal made just for her.
That’s my quick round-up of what’s been happening in my neck of the woods and a few quick last-minute ideas for Mother’s Day!
How was your week? I’ll pour an extra cup of coffee while you tell me all about it.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the fabulous Moms out there!
You are AWESOME!
