Last week I shared a bit about our trip to Virginia Beach running the Rock N Roll Half Marathon and I figured I would continue with just a bit more this week as well. I was running on coffee and little sleep for most of this trip, but that was ok. I was able to stick my toes in the sand, feel the saltwater air on my face and enjoy some really, really good food. I even broke a few rules and it was awesome!
So, in our last post, we ended with a great meal for lunch at CP Shuckers. Well, the evening before, four of us went on a little adventure. We wanted to see what it looked like from the top of the Hilton Virginia Beach. We happened to hop on the elevator with someone going to that very floor and thought “This is our lucky day!” We stepped off the elevator to a never-ending pool, hot tub, indoor pool and a view that was spectacular and seemed to stretch along the coast forever. We sat at the bar and enjoyed delicious cocktails- this here is a pineapple mojito and it was g-o-o-d.
What I have neglected to tell you – we needed a room key to get to this beautiful place; an item none of us had due to the fact we were not staying in this fine establishment. Well, when it came time for us to return to our humble quarters, there was a nice young man waiting for us at the elevator door. He never smiled, only grandly gestured for us to file into said elevator and followed close behind for the elevator ride down, making sure we disembarked into the lobby. Now, it could be that it was just a coincidence, but we all had the suspicion it wasn’t. Call it guilty conscience, but we quickly left through the dining room and out onto the boardwalk. Rebels, I tell you.
Even though we broke some house rules, they allowed us back in the following night for dinner and wine. After a long, hot day running through the streets of Virginia Beach, we dined at Catch31 on oysters, tuna steak and shrimp cocktail. A very fun evening with some wonderful friends!
We closed our trip with a nightcap by the beach, waving to tourists fiercely peddling surrey bikes up and down the boardwalk.
With an early morning wake up call, I was able to do one of my most cherished pleasures- witness the sunrise over the ocean. It brings me peace every time I am able to witness it and it was the perfect way to end our trip.
This is how we enjoyed our Labor Day Weekend. How about you? What did you do?
We had a great recipe up last week for Apricot Muffin Cakes! Did you see it? This is perfect for lunch snacks for back to school! Give it a whirl!
I added an affiliate link for a great Hampton Roads Insider’s Tour Book if you ever plan a trip to visit.
