Are You Ready to ‘Engage’ Yourself?

sunflower-garden-mom-got-blog

engage: your peers, your knowledge, yourself.

For the past year I have been searching for the meaning in my blogging, with a lot of self-reflection going on. What kind of space do I want to create? Where should the blog be in a year’s time? Will I be able to maintain content that is fun and enjoyable for you to read and share?

There are two things that I believe whole heartily- I have always held true to knowledge is power; one should never stop learning. I’ve also been a staunch believer that support is just as important. Sometimes, that little bit of encouragement is all that is needed to help someone lift themselves up and go for it.

I’ve tried to bring both of these values here to the blog by sharing tips on anything I have learned along the way and to help out those bloggers that may not be known to the masses or have an important message to share.

This has worked out well, but I have felt like something was missing. I wasn’t doing enough for my fellow blogger. I just didn’t know what to do.

Blog How To

In May of this year, I decided to attend my very first blogging conference. I wanted it to be small so that I did not feel overwhelmed. Even though have been blogging for two years, I still feel like a newbie. I was excited, yet nervous. Would I be learning things that I could apply to my blog? Would the folks I knew through my computer screen like me in real life? Am I really ready for this?

I chose to go to Bloggy Boot Camp, hosted by the SITS Girls. It had everything I was looking for. It was small, easy to get to, affordable and choc-full of content and support. That is their secret to success…support- and they do it BRILLIANTLY.

Not only did I meet fabulous bloggers, but made many new friends! I was challenged with each presentation to really think about my goals for right now and for the future. I felt empowered to make the changes to bring my blog to the next level and I was able to focus on a plan to start the process of taking steps toward my goals.

For the first time in two years, I was surrounded by a group of people I was proud to call peers, who understood and shared the same passion for the medium of blogging.

We were engaged.

I was so glad I bought that ticket. It was worth  Every.  Single.  Penny.

I thought about this conference for the next few weeks and could not shake the thought of how could I share what I got out of the conference with other bloggers? How could I convey how I felt engaged in conversation, in learning and that I, myself felt engaged in the whole process.

Then it hit me. THAT is the idea!

I wanted to find a way to support fellow bloggers, so I proposed my idea to the SITS Girls:

I wanted to take a portion of my Ad sales dollars and invest that in a ticket for someone to attend a Bloggy Boot Camp. It would help defray the cost a little bit, and hopefully have someone partake in a conference that they would enjoy.

That is it.

I want to invest in YOU to help you set your goals and learn how to take your blog to the next level. I want you to engage in yourself, your audience, your knowledge. Engage in conversation with your peers, but most of all your education.

If you have been toying with the idea to attend a Bloggy Boot Camp but have been on the fence about going, get down and go! It is so worth it! You will benefit from all those things and more!

The SITS Girls loved the idea and were extremely gracious to help make it a little easier for you to attend the next two Bloggy Boot Camps through a giveaway/sponsorship.

SITS has been kind enough to provide a ticket for the Denver BBC (Sept. 17th) to a reader of Mom Got Blog!

PLUS

Mom Got Blog is providing a ticket to the Atlanta BBC (Oct. 22nd)!

That’s right!

Two lucky readers will have the opportunity to win a free ticket through SITS and Mom Got Blog!

I am so excited to be teaming up with the SITS Girls. They are just fabulous beyond measure.

How can you win your Free BBC ticket?

wow, wow…what an incredible thing to do for someone. I always knew you were a wonderful and amazing person but this is just beyond that. It makes you phenomenal.

    Truly.

I would love to attend a Bloggy Boot Camp because I believe it can help me move myself beyond my own words and engage my community. While I blog often and enjoy the experience I am not technical enough to know how to make it better, have it reach further, truly enhance my life and someone else’s. I believe being a room with other women like you and the SITS girls would be a life changing moment for me.

thanks for the oppotunity, Kel. You have WOW’d and AWE’d me today.
    xo

I’d totally try an enter ’cause I’d love to go to a conferance but my husband took all my money so even if I DID win, I wouldnt have plane or hotel money. FML! :P

I haven’t yet been to BBC, and living where I do, there isn’t ever going to be one super duper close. ATL is a reasonable flight. So I would like to go to BBC because I haven’t been before and I like the smaller atmosphere, and I would choose ATL.

  4. says

I have been debating about which blogging conference to attend. I have felt so supported by the SITS community that I think the BBC is where I should start my blogging conference journey.

If I were lucky enough to be the chosen one, I’d love to go to Atlanta and engage myself in relationship building with some of the best and most supportive bloggers out there!

  5. Cindee says

I so want to go but getting there is problem . Hope someone will share their feedback. So awesome of you Pay it forward fabulous

  6. Katie Cannon says

I would like to the Atlanta BBC. I have blogged off and on for over 7 years on a couple of different blogs but I feel like I have found a place to share more. I want to be able to engage my readers more and really be more.

  7. says

I want to go to BBC b/c I love the smaller atmosphere of it. I went to BBC Baltimore about a year and a half ago and I feel like I want a redo. I was just starting out and I felt overwhelmed. I’d love to see what it’s like now.

    I’d do to Atlanta.

  8. says

I would like to attend a Bloggy Boot Camp because I hope to gain great, specific information to help me achieve my goals for my blog. I hope to engage by meeting and encouraging other bloggers, and by meeting sponsors as well.

I would prefer to attend Bloggy Boot Camp: Atlanta.

  9. says

I would love the attend the Atlanta BBC! I am pretty to new to blogging and social media. I want to learn how to use it to grow my blog and provide more information to my readers. I like to engage my readers by encouraging them to share information as well. Thanks for this giveaway!!!

  10. Emily says

    Oh, my.

Why would I like to go? Because I’ve been blogging for years and I finally got up the testicles to push myself out into the open. I tested the waters and NO ONE HATES ME (yet) and I’m telling the world about me! Also, everyone I meet thinks I’m a weirdo for putting my life online and I’d really like to meet some people who didn’t think i needed to be committed.

How would I engage? Well, I’d like to say I would be calm and demure, classily carrying on intelligent conversations while exchanging business cards and twirling my pearls…but in reality? I’d probably tear into the room, arms and legs all Kermity and unbrushed hair – lipstick on my teeth and shirt misbuttoned – screaming for someone, anyone, PLEASE love me, comment on my page and like me on facebook. And then I’d curl up in a corner, sucking my thumb and scattering business cards.

    Too much?

  11. Christy, Home-Mom says

I’ve been blogging for a year and love it. I need to find ways to make it work for me and not so much me working for it. I love writing, helping others with tutorials, and learning from other greats!

I’d love to attend either one, no preferences here .)

  12. says

Thanks for engaging and offering this opportunity. For the past few years I have felt that I have been struggling to find my voice: what do I have to offer in the blog-o-sphere that differentiates me from other bloggers? I am hoping the BBC would enable me to discover ways to develop my “voice” while at the same time get pointers on how to refine and improve my site. Finally, blogging can be lonely work. I would love the chance to meet other bloggers who share my passion for writing and communicating.

Either conference would be a blast to attend!

  13. says

I have similar fears that you had…sitting in a large room full of people that actually know what they’re doing and having them find out that I don’t have a clue. But I do want to attend and have the experience and gain the knowledge! My choice would be Denver.

  14. says

I would be forever grateful to win a trip to Bloggy Bootcamp. Either one works for me.

I think Denver is closer but I’m not picky!!! :)

  15. says

I would love to attend because I think that a blogging conference is an incredible way to connect, network and meet these amazing people who we interact with on a regular basis from behind our screens. :) I would probably pick Atlanta as I’m in NC and it’s closer and more feasible, transportation-wise, but man, I’d love to get to Denver someday! I am sad I missed Boston, I would have gone were I still living in NYC, but then I might not have ever started blogging and wouldn’t know all these fantastic peeps. Thanks for the chance to win. YOu rock!

  16. says

I would like to attend Atlanta BBC so I can spend longer then nap-time or a potty break in blog land. In blog land all the people are like me: crazy to believe that their writing can make a difference.

Plus to be completely honest, a weekend away from the hubby and kiddo would be pretty awesome too!

  17. says

What a wonderful thing to do for someone!! I would like to go to the Atlanta BBC because my sister lives there too and so it would not cost as much to stay there! I would like to go to the BBC because I love to blog. I write nearly everyday and I want to learn how to take my blog to the next level. I need to learn to use WordPress instead of blogger and also how to make it look more “me”. I am not good at the technical aspects of blogging but would really like to learn.

  18. says

I would love to attend the Atlanta BBC. I feel like I will be the nerdy freshman in the room of awesome chic seniors. But I will attempt to engage more by trying to get to know some of the others bloggers and their blogs prior to the conference so I will feel more comfortable chatting at the conference.

  19. says

I would love to attend the Denver one. I’ve never been to Denver, but have been to one blog conference in Arizona and loved every minute of it. I not only got to learn tons from peers and professionals, but like you, it was the first time I was in a room filled with so many people with similar interests. It was about the best time I ever had and what I learned was priceless.

As for engaging, I think this time (if I get to go) I will be more proactive in getting to know the speakers and actually muster up the courage to raise my hand and ask the questions I’ve been dying to get answers to.

Thanks so much for the opportunity!

  20. says

What a beautiful offer! I’ve blogged for a while now…but am suffering a bit from being disengaged; Especially as a 47 yo mom of 2 grown children, starting over with my 3 yo nephew (recently became his guardian). I need to engage with young mom’s AGAIN, find my place in the blog-world…now that I jumped from empty nester to toddler mommie all over again. Not to mention the whirlwind in my life. LOL
I live just outside of Atlanta…and would LOVE to attend the Atlanta BBC. No way I could fly to Denver, unfortunately all my additional funds are going to day care and assisting with my ‘new’ 3 yo.
    Thanks for the opportunity!

  21. Darla Akin says

I need a jump start. I want to start blogging and don’t know where to begin. I would love the opportunity to talk face-to-face with others who are blogging. I could make either conference work.

  22. says

WOW!! What an incredible thing you are willing to do for a complete stranger!! I have always always wanted to go to BBC. I live in Nashville, and am about 3 hours away from ATL. Id love to go to Atlanta.

I feel like I have so many goals for my blog, but no idea how to achieve them. Im sure if I went to BBC, I could learn so much. I know I could achieve my goals and my dreams for this blog. Thank you again so so so much for the opportunity. I hope its me going to ATL, but either way its an amazing opportunity for whoever wins.

  23. Sarah says

This is such an amazing opportunity you are providing. I am a beginner blogger trying to navigate and network. I would love to meet fellow bloggers and learn some tricks of the trade to grow my blog and business. So excited to attend a conference one day!

  24. says

What an awesome giveaway! I’d love to attend a blogging conference – BBC or otherwise – to learn more about engaging with brands and turning my blog into a business. I’d also love to meet the bloggers that I’ve come to call friends through visiting their blogs and them, in turn, visiting mine. If there’s one key piece of knowledge I’ve learned in my [almost] one year of blogging, it’s that this type of engagement is so very important.

And I’d prefer the Atlanta BBC. :)

  25. Brandon says

Very cool, you! (Sorry I haven’t been by in a little while.)

I think it’s great that you are challenging yourself so much and giving back. Wicked proud of you.

***Oh, and I don’t know how you are drawing, but if for some reason I win, pass it along to the next lucky person! ;)

  26. says

I am so humbled by the responses! Wow! BBC is a wonderful conference, and I wish I could help each of you!

I will visit each of you…just may take me a while! :)

  27. says

How exciting!! I have been thinking recently about wanting to attend some type of blog conference or bloggers’ get-together!! I am a new blogger and would love to learn more and be part of a network of blogging friends! It would be a tossup for me as to which location since both are probably about the same distance. But if I HAD to choose, I guess the one in Denver.

  28. says

    Brilliant and generous idea!

I am longing to finally make it to a blog con. It is so strange how we can converse and network in our cyberworld yet never shake a hand, share a hug, or give a much deserved pat on a back. I see so many bloggers getting ahead by making real connections with each other and I would love the opportunity be a part of the “real world” blogging community. It would be fabulous to put a face with each name, share a laugh, a smile, and hopefully a glass of wine.

  29. says

I spend waaaaay too much time reading about various blog conferences and wishing I was taking part in them. This is one that I’d do just about anything to go to! I think what you’re doing is just fabulous.

Partly because I don’t know many bloggers locally or even online that I’ve established relationships with, and I’m craving a group that will help me grow and build a better blog.

Also, though, because I need help in learning how to take my blog from an online journal to a REAL blog.

  30. Mandy says

Oh what a wonderful opportunity! I would love to attend Bloggy Boot Camp for the opportunity to advance my skills and improve my writing, find what I am passionate about, learn from the best and get new ideas. Also to network with other bloggers and see what they are passionate about. I am new to blogging and still learning. I would prefer Atlanta. =)

  31. says

I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to go to BBC Atlanta. I feel like I have so much to learn about blogging, although I have been doing it for over 3 years now. I feel like I have a great blog and great potential, but I’m somehow missing something to engage my readers, bring in new readers, and retain current ones. engaging with other bloggers IN PERSON and networking with them would help me really understand what makes a good blog great! its overwhelming to read about blogging tips online, but to hear it and talk about it in person would make a HUGE difference for me!

  32. says

I would love to attend BLOGGY Boot Camp to futher my knowledge. I’m a type of person that learns so much more from seeing it in action and I think a conference will help me really put that all in to perspective. I would love to engage with other bloggers and make some new friends. I sometimes feel I am in a world of my own with blogging. Most of my friends don’t have blogs and probably think I’m a bit crazy. lol I’ve never been, so it would be sooooo much fun to have an opportunity.

I’d prefer the Denver, but open to either. Thanks for the opportunity!

  33. says

I’d love to go to the Atlanta BBC.

I’d engage by JUMPING out of my comfort zone and actually speaking to real, live people, instead of typing messages on a keyboard. One regret I have about the last conference I attended was how much of a wallflower I was. No more!

  34. says

I would love to attend a bloggy boot camp in Atlanta! I’ve been blogging for 2 years now and still feel like a newby. No-one I know understands blogging, and why maintaining my site is as important to me (and sometimes more so) as looking for work. Since I live in Atlanta, if I won a ticket I’d actually be able to afford to attend. I’d love the opportunity to network with other bloggers who believe what they do can make a difference…

  35. says

I would love the opportunity to attend. I’ve been laying low these past few months and haven’t had the “za” in my gut to blog much and would love to be with other women to help me be inspired again both professionally and personally. NEED it! I’d like to be “engaged”. giggle

  36. says

OMG! I would love, love, LOVE to attend the Atlanta event. I’m a foodie in the Atlanta area and my blog is relatively new. The opportunity to expand would be phenomenal! How would I engage? Well, meeting and networking with all the amazing bloggers, asking tons of questions, passing out business cards… just being present and truly taking in all the info given at this fantastic bloggy event. Soooo looking forward to it! Thanks for an amazing opportunity!

  37. says

i was also at #bbcbos and i loved it – was my first blog conference.

am now so wanting to go to atl to meet the “southern” bloggers, and meet more fabulous people like all the wonderful folks in boston.

and i have a great friend in atl i owe a visit to so it’s the perfect reason to not just talk about going, about actually do it :)

  38. says

I would love to attend Bloggy Boot Camp in Atlanta to better myself as a blogger and learn how to advance my site by increasing readership and my writing skills.

I think networking and being able to engage with other bloggers is such an important part of the blogging world. It’s impossible to thrive unless you have a great support system and I think Bloggy Boot Camp would be a great setting to learn and grow with my peers.

  39. Robin says

I’m an auditory learner and I think hearing the speakers will be more beneficial than just reading pro-blogger posts (but reading THOSE has helped a lot). I have no idea how I’ll engage other than to meet people and smile a lot.
Also – My fellow FunGirls (from The Fun Girls4.com) will be at BBC Atlanta and I cannot afford the cost and am truly hoping to win.

  40. says

I would like to attend the Denver Bloggy camp to learn, share and validate what I’ve found myself doing for the last year! I believe the SITS girls get it.

I founded a blog a year ago – Mom On A Spiritual Journey – which shares the latest information on alternative health practices and vibrational medicine for moms and families. The blog was created in my mum’s memory (a British Mum) who unfortunately passed away after receiving the H1N1 vaccination – a shot she did not even need. More people need to know that there are so many other alternatives to modern medicines to help us stay well.

How would I engage? I have information to share from my ‘niche’, I’m an energy worker and reflexologist, plus I’m an intuitive with essential oils. I love wine and coffee and good conversation too and have Darren Rouse’s ProBlogger book…working through it but would love more support and feel ready to soak up some new knowledge.

OK. That’s probably enough for now. Can you tell I’m excited about this opportunity yet?

    In the energy of love!
    Sarah

  41. says

I would love to attend the Bloggy Boot Camp in Atlanta because I feel I need some renewed inspiration. From what I’ve read, Bloggy Boot Camp is small enough to where I feel I can make great connections and really get a lot out of it.

    Thanks for sponsoring:)
